Kristina Barbier earns Everest Excellence Community Member award
Kristina Barbier has worked relentlessly for years volunteering, included in her efforts is providing back-to-school supplies for students in need. This past year, the Workplace Volunteer Council (WVC) went above and beyond to provide over 1000 backpacks and supplies for students in the D.C.Everest School district alone. Kristina is chairperson of this event for the WVC and was honored for this effort and received one of the Everest Excellence Community Member awards.
The Workplace Volunteer Council is an organization that helps increase volunteerism in your business or workplace by serving as a connection between your business and the non-profits in our community. The WVC’s signature project is Fill A Backpack Fill a Need (FABFAN). FABFAN provides backpacks filled with school supplies to children in Marathon County who qualify for free or reduced lunch based on family size and income. Last year over 6,500 students were eligible and more than half participated, starting their school year off on the right foot with needed supplies.
The WVC’s other key projects are Bare Necessities and Back to Basics. Bare Necessities collects new undergarments and new socks and Back to Basics collects travel, sample, and full-size toiletries. All items are distributed to individuals and families in need in our community.
If you are interested in learning more about WVC or becoming a member, join us at our next meeting Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 7:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. at the United Way Office located at 705 24th Ave., Suite 400B. Or call Krista Mischo at 715-298-5719.
